Dental Crown in West Seattle

Dental restorations are essential for maintaining oral health and functionality, and dental crowns and bridges are among the most common tooth replacement solutions. These treatments can restore damaged teeth and replace missing ones, improving your smile and your ability to chew and speak. couple smiling | dental crown west seattle

At Holliday Dental Wellness, we offer custom-made dental crowns and bridges in West Seattle at our holistic dental office.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering or “cap” that covers a tooth and restores its shape, size, color, strength, and appearance. When cemented into place, dental crowns completely cover the visible portion of a tooth above the gumline, restoring the tooth structure.

Dental crowns are versatile and can do the following:

  • Support a tooth with a large filling
  • Protect a weak or severely decayed tooth
  • Conceal a misshapen or discolored tooth
  • Restore a broken, cracked, or worn-down tooth
  • Cap a dental implant
  • Hold a dental bridge in place
  • Improve the aesthetics of one’s smile

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by spanning the space where the teeth are missing. We secure the bridge by cementing it to natural teeth or with dental implants around the space. These teeth on either side, also known as abutments, serve as anchors for the bridge. Next, we attach a replacement tooth, or pontic, to the crowns that cover the abutment teeth.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

Crowns and bridges at Holliday Dental Wellness are two of the most common types of restorations and offer benefits that you can see and feel.

Strengthens a Weakened Tooth

A dental crown reinforces a weakened tooth by covering it completely, providing the support needed to prevent further damage. This protective layer restores the tooth's strength, allowing it to function effectively without the risk of cracking or breaking.

Restores Function and Appearance

Dental crowns are custom-made to match your natural teeth in shape, size, and shade. Getting a high-quality crown restores the tooth’s appearance and function, allowing you to chew and speak comfortably while maintaining a natural-looking smile.

Protects a Tooth from Further Damage

A crown protects a damaged tooth from further decay, cracks, and wear by covering and sealing it. This added protection helps preserve the tooth's natural structure and extends its lifespan, preventing the need for more extensive procedures.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Laser Dentistry in Seattle

We use laser dentistry to prepare teeth for crowning or filling. The laser gently but efficiently removes areas of decay or jagged edges, preserving more tooth structure. We also use our laser in sleep apnea treatment.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a severe sleep disorder that causes you to stop breathing multiple times during the night. This can hinder life quality and put you at risk for severe complications like stroke and high blood pressure.

In some cases, the laser can be used to gently lift the palate and widen the airway to prevent nighttime obstruction.

Your West Seattle dentist will evaluate your case to determine whether laser dentistry is a suitable treatment option.

What Is the Crown and Bridge Procedure Like?

The procedure for placing crowns and bridges typically involves multiple steps. Initially, Dr. Holliday in West Seattle prepares the teeth by reshaping them to make room for a crown or bridge. Next, we make an impression to create your custom-made restoration. Once the final restoration is ready, we cement it in place and make any necessary adjustments for your ultimate satisfaction.

What Are the Benefits of a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns have several benefits:

  • They restore the aesthetics of your smile and facial structure.
  • Crowns help to protect weak teeth from further damage or prevent the need for extractions.
  • They restore the functionality of damaged teeth, allowing for normal eating and speaking.
  • Crowns are customized to match the color and appearance of your natural teeth, providing a seamless look.

What Are the Benefits of a Dental Bridge?

Tooth bridges also offer many advantages:

  • They restore your ability to chew and speak properly.
  • Bridges maintain your face’s shape, preventing the sunken appearance that often accompanies tooth loss.
  • Replacing missing teeth properly distributes the forces in your bite.
  • Bridges prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of position.
  • They restore your smile’s aesthetics.
